Important Information

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Classroom Information Basics

Communication: I will be sending home a weekly newsletter each Monday, outlining skills, concepts, and events for the upcoming week.  Please let me know if you would like to have the newsletter emailed directly to you instead of receiving a paper copy.  Additionally, you will receive a "Dinner Talk" email each day that gives a quick synopsis of our day together.

Behavior Calendar: Please review the behavior calendar each night and discuss your student’s choices for the day.  Sign the behavior calendar on the corresponding day and return it to the calendar.  The behavior calendar is to stay inside your student’s red folder as it is the students responsibility to color their calendars at the end of every day.  For more information regarding the Behavior Calendar and our Color Game, please click here.

Reading Log:  Your student is expected to read 20 minutes each school day.  Reading is an important part of student development and practicing at home will reinforce skills learned at school.

Folders: Please be sure to check your student’s red folder every night.  Take out any notes or papers that were sent home.  Let your student know when he or she has notes to turn into me.  As part of our daily routine, the children are responsible for taking out their own notes and placing them in our Notes Bin.

Snack:  In addition to regular lunchtime, we will have a snack time every day.  The students should bring in a healthy snack such as fruit, vegetables, or granola bars.  Candy, cookies, and chips are not allowed at snack time.

Birthdays:  Birthdays are special days and we love to celebrate them! Our school has implemented a healthy treat policy.  This means that healthy, store bought birthday treats or a physical treat (think pencils, stickers etc.) may be brought in to celebrate your student’s birthday.  Please let me know ahead of time if you plan on sending in a birthday treat to avoid any doubles of treats and in case of allergies. Invitations for home parties may be passed out only if the entire class is invited.

Lunch:  The children have 20 minutes for lunch and 20 minutes for recess.  If you did not purchase milk for your child, he or she may bring his or her own drink.  Milk is available for purchase.

Phone Calls:  If you call me during regular school hours, you will be directed to my voicemail.  I will check my voicemail at the end of the day, when students have left.  If you have a message that needs to given to me quickly (emergency, change of student’s way home), please let the office staff know.

Pick-ups:  If your student is going to be picked up instead of riding the bus home, you must send a note or call the office.  This does not apply to daily pick-ups.

Clothing:  Students will be going to gym every day.  Your student should wear gym shoes each day.  As winder approaches, the children will be wearing boots, snow pants, mittens, hats, etc.  Please be sure to label all of your child’s clothing with his/her name.
